Pirates top Padres on walk-off single, 2-1

PITTSBURGH The Pirates beat the San Diego Padres, 2-1, at PNC Park on Monday night on Pedro Alvarez's walk-off single in the ninth. Brandon Maurer walked Andrew McCutchen with one out in the ninth. Jung Ho Kang singled up the middle. Francisco Cervelli's fly ball allowed McCutchen to reach third. The Padres did not have Frank Garces, the only lefty in their bullpen, warming, and instead allowed Maurer to face Alvarez. Alvarez singled to drive home the go-ahead run.
