The Cubs awarded beleaguered fan Steve Bartman with a 2016 World Series ring, hoping to create closure on what they called "an unfortunate chapter of the story that has perpetuated" over the years.
Whether that's true remains to be seen. Unless Bartman is introduced at Wrigley Field to cheers someday, we won't really know if it's over.
Still, it's a big win for Bartman, an accidental piece of Cubs' lore whose integrity in the aftermath of the foul ball incident of 2003 earned him the respect of most fans.
