CHARLESTON, Ill. — Lyons senior Stephanie Lin intently watched the birdie land near her feet in the far right corner of Saturday's state badminton title match.
In a historic moment, silence soon turned to a wave of screams for Lin.
Lin capped her career by defeating Hinsdale South sophomore Judy Yang 16-21, 21-18, 21-13 to claim her record-setting third consecutive state singles title at Eastern Illinois.
Lin (43-2) became the first singles player in Illinois High School Association history to win three straight championships. Three others have won three titles, but none did it back-to-back-to-back years.
