1. Talking Ravens with a Baltimore Sports and Life blogger

The Baltimore sports scene is blessed with a bunch of talented bloggers who bring their unique perspective to the conversation. Each week, I hope to chat with one of them in a regular feature called Blogger on Blogger. This week, I exchanged emails with Chris Worthington, who blogs about the Ravens for Baltimore Sports and Life.

  7. Ravens news, notes and opinions

By now, I’m not sure what’s left to say about the Ravens’ decision to fire offensive coordinator Cam Cameron and replace him with quarterbacks coach Jim Caldwell. Cameron had seemingly been on the hot seat for a couple of years, so it’s not surprising at all that he’s no longer the offensive coordinator. However, the timing is what caught people off guard. The Ravens’ offense made some mistakes in the 31-28 overtime loss to the Washington Redskins but it also did plenty of good things and was not the reason the team lost the game. Harbaugh also insisted that the game had no bearing on Cameron being let go, denying reports, including one by Baltimore Sun columnist Mike Preston, that the two got into a heated exchange on the sideline and it continued into the locker room. Harbaugh did say that he made the decision following the game, so you have little choice but to conclude that something happened during the loss that finally led to the breaking point with Cameron. The CBS cameras clearly caught the two engaging in some sort of disagreement just before the first half. I guess it’s really a moot point because one disagreement or argument didn’t cost Cameron his job. A lack of significant progress by Joe Flacco, a seeming reluctance to get Ray Rice the ball in certain games and an overall inconsistency and malaise by the offense did.

  9. More on the Ravens and small-school NFL prospects

For the first time in a decade, the Ravens last weekend drafted three players from college football programs that were below the Division I FBS (formerly I-A) level. As Ravens director of player personnel Eric DeCosta put it, the Ravens “had to manufacture some runs this year” because the team’s draft board was similar to those of the NFL’s 31 other teams and 147 of their top 150 players were selected.

  11. Examining 16 years of Ravens draft trends

While doing my homework on the Ravens and their history in the NFL draft, I spent a little time exploring our Ravens draft database (sorry for the shameless plug, but it’s pretty neat feature if you haven’t checked it out). In no particular order, here are some trends and random factoids from the 126 picks they’ve made in 16 years.

Jarret Johnson still grimaces when he thinks about it. For as long as he could remember, he'd been a strong guy. Some of it was country strength, the kind of muscles you build when you grow up in in a small Florida town on the Gulf of Mexico, raised by a...

  15. Building a team with the best draft picks in Ravens history

Fifteen years ago, the Ravens selected UCLA offensive tackle Jonathan Ogden and Miami linebacker Ray Lewis -- the two best players in franchise history -- in the first round of their first draft in Baltimore. Since then, the Ravens have continued to find productive players in the NFL draft, especially with their first-round selections.

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. - Brett Favre isn't trying to fake it. He can talk at length about some of the league's most intense rivalries that he has been involved with, but Jets- Patriots isn't one of them. "Well, it feels different, obviously, because it's...
