Osceola center gathers presents for homeless kids on motel row

The motels lining the highways of Osceola County have long played host to tourists and vacationers. But they have also played another role – home to hundreds of children and their families who can't afford to live anywhere else. After years of trailing behind the rest of the region in available programs, a community center to provide support and assistance to the county's homeless finally opened in 2013. And this holiday season marks its first-ever gift presentation to local children in need. "We're giving away 234 gift boxes for children age 0 to 15," said volunteer Rose Jones, of Windward Cay.
