15. Spending: Declutter your life: Give your stuff away

Donating stuff to charity is all good: You get a warm, fuzzy feeling. Plus, someone else benefits from your castoffs, and less stuff ends up in a landfill. The easiest way to donate clothing, housewares and furniture is to contact an organization that will send a truck to pick up your stuff (the driver will leave a tax receipt) and put it to work in its thrift stores. Two major players are Goodwill (http://www.goodwill.org) and the Salvation Army (http://www.salvationarmyusa.org). Veterans organizations that provide a similar service include Amvets (http://www.amvetspickup.org), the Military Order of the Purple Heart (http://www.veteranpickup.org) and Vietnam Veterans of America (http://www.clothingdonations.org). Check with the charity to verify what it is willing to take -- especially if the items are large.
