    After an emergency situation at our house a few years back, my husband received two blood transfusions. So, I've always wanted to give back to this system that meant so much to us. &nbsp;When I heard that there was going to be an American Red Cross Blood Drive in our town - <a href="http://www.redcrossblood.org/urgent-summer-2012" target="_blank">due to a national shortage of these life-saving bags</a> - I decided to participate and donate my first ever pint of blood. &nbsp;The nation's blood supply is currently the lowest it's been in the past 15 years.
