    This week, many of us went to the polls to choose the candidate(s) we would like to represent us in our state and nation's general election this November. In this process we are often involved in considerable debate about the qualities and characteristics we desire of those that we elect to serve the public good and to what end they employ their power, once elected. That's why I particularly took notice of this week's Torah portion in the Jewish calendar. It is called Parashat Eikev and is found in Deuteronomy 10: 12-17. In this particular Torah portion, Moses offers the Israelites one of the most moving and persuasive encouragements of divine service found in the entire Torah, according to rabbi David Singer (of Congregation Shearith in Dallas, Texas) writing for the American Jewish World Service.
