Dec 20 (The Sports Xchange) - A judge in Denver dismissed a domestic violence case against Colorado Avalanche goalie Semyon Varlamov, the Denver Post reported Friday.
The case was dropped at the request of prosecutors.
A motion to dismiss the remaining misdemeanor assault charge was filed by the district attorney's office on Friday because prosecutors did not believe they had sufficient evidence to prove the case in a trial.
Varlamov has a 16-8-1 record with a 2.37 goal-against average this season as the Avalanche's No. 1 goalie.
San Jose Sharks forward Tomas Hertl will miss at least a month because of a left knee injury suffered in Thursday's loss to the Los Angeles Kings, CSNBayArea.com reported Friday.
Hertl had an MRI exam on Friday, and he could be sidelined for more than a month if the results reveal significant damage.
Hertl leads NHL rookies with 15 goals and 25 points in 35 games.
Phoenix Coyotes captain Shane Doan has a form of Rocky Mountain fever disease, according to general manager Don Maloney, USA Today reported.
Doan is on injured reserve and is considered week-to-week. He is still on medication.
According to the Mayo Clinic, Rocky Mountain fever is a bacterial disease that affects the cells in the lining of blood vessels.
Defenseman Pavel Kubina announced his retirement after a 14-year NHL career.
Kubina helped the Tampa Bay Lightning win the Stanley Cup in 2004. He last played in the league in the 2011-12 season with the Lightning and Philadelphia Flyers, and spent part of last season in the Swiss-A league. (Editing by Frank Pingue)
