Are You Ready to Lose?
Season 9 of The Biggest Loser has begun and once again, the ranch is seeing its biggest contestants yet. This time, Bob Harper and Jillian Michaels will be training 11 pairs of family members from all over the country. The only thing missing from this season's cast is the "obvious villain" we've grown accustomed to.

For the first time in its 9 seasons, I finally opted to not eat a heavy meal while watching. For some reason, watching the contestants work out always gets me ravenous, as though I had been the one sweating through three shirts in the course of a treadmill session.

Before the players could even unpack their duffels the hostess-with-the-mostest, Ali Sweeney, gave them their first challenge. At the end of last season, the contestants all ran a marathon. This season, the new contestants had to complete those same 26.2 miles on a stationary bike.

The team to complete the miles the fastest won immunity. Unfortunately, the bottom two teams were eliminated immediately. Personally, I'm not a fan of doing things this way. There is no point in bringing them to the ranch if they're only going to be sent back without even a drop of new information. Also, it's probably the weakest competitors who need the most help. In this case, it was the yellow team and the blue team. Jillian and Bob assured them that at the end of 30 days, they would be back, weighing-in against each other for a spot on the ranch.

Let's meet the contestants shall we?

Pink Team
Mother and daughter team Sherry and Ashley are from Knoxville, TN. Blonde and bubbly, they remind me of season 7-winner Helen and her daughter Shannon.

In the first week of competition, Sherry dropped 17 lbs. and Ashley lost 21.

Yellow Team
Father and daughter team O'Neal and Sunshine from Minneapolis, MN. Unfortunately, they were one of the first two teams to be let go before the action even got started.

Gray Team
We've got Tongan cousins for the second time and they're just as loud as Season 7's Sione and Felipe. Sam and Koli are from Rohnert Park, CA and look to be a very strong team.

In the first week of competition, Koli lost 29 lbs. and Sam lost 18.

Purple Team
Stephanie and Patti are a mother/daughter duo from West Hollywood, CA.

Stephanie was able to sweat off 18 lbs. while her mother lost an impressive 23!

Red Team
Everything is supposed to be bigger in Texas but Melissa and her husband Lance look like some of the smaller contestants this season. That didn't stop them from kicking some serious butt on the scale though.

Melissa lost 19lbs. this week and Lance said goodbye to 21lbs.
