CANNES -- Entertainment One Films has bought three films in Cannes for the Canadian market, including "Little Prince" from WildBunch, "Somnia" from Sierra Affinity and "Viral" from Blumhouse Intl.
In "Little Prince," based on a children's novella, a pilot crashes in the desert and meets a little boy from a distant planet. As the pilot repairs his plane, the little prince regales him with stories about his home, and the foolish inhabitants of nearby asteroids.
"Kung Fu Panda"), the film features the voices of James Franco, Rachel McAdams, Jeff Bridges, Benicio Del Toro and Paul Giamatti. It is produced by Onyx Films' Aton Soumache and Dimitri Rassam.
eOne is planning a wide release for Thanksgiving 2016, together with Paramount, which has secured the film for the U.S.
"Somnia" stars Kate Bosworth and Thomas Jane, and is a supernatural thriller about an orphaned child whose dreams -- and nightmares -- manifest physically as he sleeps.
Directed by Mike Flanagan and co-written by Flanagan and Jeff Howard, Demarest Films and MICA Ent. financed the film, with Intrepid Pictures' Trevor Macy and Demarest's Sam Englebardt and William D. Johnson as producers.
eOne is planning a wide release in early 2015, alongside Relativity, which is distributing the film in the U.S.
"Viral" stars Sophia Black De'lia and Analeigh Tipton, and will be directed by the "Catfish" team of Henry Joost and Ariel Shulman.
In the film, sisters Emma and Stacey live a seemingly normal life in their small suburban neighborhood. But when their county succumbs to the spread of a parasitic virus, they're put to the test to survive a city-wide quarantine, with the increasingly violent infected trapped inside.
An IM Global and Blumhouse Productions film, Jason Blum serves as a producer for Blumhouse, Matt Kaplan for Chapter One Films, and Sherryl Clark for Busted Shark. IM Global CEO Stuart Ford and president of production Matt Jackson are executive producing alongside Charles Layton.
"Viral" is being handled in the U.S. by The Weinstein Company/Dimension.
