MADRID - Two of the executives who are shaping AMC/Sundance Channel Global's roll-out around the world have been upped at the company, Gail Gendler to vice president, acquisitions, and Patrick Connolly to VP, programming and scheduling.
Both will continue to report to Harold Gronenthal, executive vice president, programming & operations.
"Gail and Patrick have been integral to the expansion of our global business. Their collaborative and strategic planning across all areas of programming as well as their knowledge of international TV has resulted in increased demand for AMC/Sundance Channel Global Networks," Gronenthal said.
Gendler joined AMC Networks - then known as Rainbow Media - in 2000 and oversees all acquisitions for AMC/Sundance Channel Global. In that capacity, she spearheads multiplatform content deals for Sundance Channel Global and WE tv Asia. Gendler began at the company as director of rights & clearances, cutting her career teeth before that at NBC on "Later⦠with Bob Costas" and as part of NBC's Olympic Unit.
Connolly oversees scheduling, promotion planning and on-air creative for all linear and VOD programming for Sundance Channel Global and WE tv Asia. Prior to joining AMC/Sundance Channeñ Global, he was a scheduling and programming consultant with Showtime. Connolly began his career in programming at Fox, where he held various positions including vice president of children's programming.
Muscular expansion at AMC/Sundance Channel Global has made the tailoring of a burgeoning global brand to specific market tastes - including the creation, acquisition and programming of original or exclusive programming - an increasingly intricate art.
Offering exclusive first run movies and original drama such as "Rectify," AMC/Sundance Channel Global allied with DirecTV Latin America to roll out Sundance Channel on Sept. 17 in seven Latin American countries: Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela. Inking more recently with the Liberty Global-owned VTR in Chile, further expansion across all of Latin America is a priority for 2014, per AMC/Sundance Channel Global president Bruce Tuchman.
In Asia, Sundance Channel has been launched on IPTV service LG Korea, its fourth Korean carrier, and has also commenced as a VOD service in Taiwan on Taiwan Mobile and on TrueVisions in Thailand. Further recent new pacts for either its linear channel or VOD service take in France, Belgium, Poland and Hungary.
