HBO has set April 27 as the premiere date for John Oliver's topical half-hour comedy series, "Last Week Tonight with John Oliver."

"Last Week" will air at 11 p.m. following HBO's spring slate of original series, which includes the powerhouse "Game of Thrones." HBO has ordered 24 episodes.

Oliver inked the deal with HBO for a Sunday night show last fall on the heels of his much-praised run as substitute anchor for Jon Stewart on Comedy Central's "The Daily Show."

"Daily Show" alum Tim Carvell is showrunner of "Last Week" and exec produces with Oliver, James Taylor and Jon Thoday. Liz Stanton is producer.
