AMC/Sundance Channel Global, the international division of AMC Networks, has acquired six titles from year's Sundance Festival to fuel the growth of its international channels in Europe, Asia and Latin America.
Unveiled at Park City by Bruce Tuchman president of AMC/Sundance Channel Global. The acquisitions come as Sundance Channel is seeing its biggest year of growth ever across its international networks and video-on-demand services., the company said Thursday.
"The Disobedient," "Liar's Dice," "Memphis" and "This May Bethe Last Time" have been acquired for all territories where the Sundance Channel is seen.
"Drunktown's Finest" has been picked up for Asia (excluding Malaysia), Benelux, Eastern Europe, France, Iberia and Latin America. AMC/Sundance Channel Global has swooped on "To Kill a Man" for Asia, Eastern Europe, the Middle East and North Africa.
All titles will premiere exclusively on Sundance Channel this Spring. Gail Gendler, senior director of acquisitions, AMC/Sundance Channel Global, negotiated all six deals.
Sundance Channel "shares the same mission as the festival to support the growth of independent film. It also provides a global platform to showcase the compelling work of emerging filmmakers," Tuchman commented.
"We're looking forward to providing an even greater choice of high quality independent films along with first run original drama on Sundance Channel in the months ahead."
Sundance Channel, along with AMC/Sundance Channel Global's WE tv, a women's lifestyle channel, has seen exponential growth in its international roll-out over the last 12 months.
Offering exclusive first run movies and original drama such as "Rectify," AMC/Sundance Channel Global allied with DirecTV Latin America to roll out Sundance Channel on Sept. 17 in seven Latin American countries: Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela.
The channel also just launched for the first time in the Middle East and North Africa in 24 countries
In Asia, Sundance Channel has been launched on IPTV service LG Korea, its fourth Korean carrier, and has also commenced as a VOD service in Taiwan on Taiwan Mobile and on TrueVisions in Thailand. Further recent new pacts for either its linear channel or VOD service take in France, Belgium, Poland and Hungary.
