Morning news drama is about to get even more dramatic, as Lifetime is developing a telepic adaptation of Brian Stelter's book "Top of the Morning."
Released in April, "Top of the Morning" is billed as an inside look to the "cutthroat world of morning TV," centering on the rivalry between NBC's "Today" and ABC's "Good Morning America."
Ann Curry as "Today" co-anchor in 2012 as the NBC's stalwart began to lose the ratings race to "GMA."
Telepic will be exec produced by Liz Gately and Tony DiSanto and their DiGa Vision banner.
Stelter recently transitioned from the New York Times to CNN, where he now hosts "Reliable Sources."
Lifetime's deal to adapt "Top of the Morning" is sure to raise some eyebrows as the cabler is 50% owned by Disney, parent company of ABC. The book is generally flattering to "GMA" and the ABC News executive team.
News of the Lifetime adaptation was first reported by TVNewser.
