The Ahmanson opening of Neil Simon's "The Sunshine Boys" brought out Danny DeVito's castmates of "Taxi" and "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" among other guests Wednesday to downtown L.A.
Richard Griffiths was originally cast opposite DeVito but passed away earlier this year and then David Krumholtz dropped out and was replaced by Justin Bartha. Director Thea Sharrock said of the show's bumpy ride to opening night: "I don't really think of it like this. Richard's passing away was a big unexpected shock of course. We had to honor him and carry on with what we had begun together."
DeVito said, "Great to be on stage with Judd Hirsch in 'The Sunshine Boys,' a masterpiece by Neil Simon. We are flying together and having a ball!"
Joining Sharrock and the stars including Hirsch and Bartha at the opening at Millennium Biltmore afterparty were Simon and wife Eileen Joyce, Lawrence Kasdan, Christopher Lloyd, Marilu Henner, Rob McElhenny, Charlie Day, Glenn Howerton, Beth Grant and Alyssa Milano.
