HONG KONG -- AMC Networks' Sundance Channel is to launch in Indonesia, following a carriage deal with DTH satellite platform Indovision.
The film and drama-led network will be made available as a linear channel sub-titled into Bahasa Indonesia.
The move is part of a concerted catch-up effort by AMC/Sundance Channel Global in South East Asia. The past year has also seen the establishment by the group of new outposts for scheduling and on-air creative services based in Singapore, and affiliate operations spearheaded out of Hong Kong.
The Indonesia debut for Sundance Channel follows the recent launch of the group's WE tv on Astro, Malaysia's leading consumer media entertainment group.
Indonesia is considered as a massive opportunity for many Western media groups. With a young and growing population of some 250 million, Indonesia is the world's fourth most populous nation, but it currently counts less than 2 million subscribing pay-TV households.
