A Riviera Beach man spent part of his birthday in jail after police said he stole more than $3,700 worth of baseball equipment and electronics from an out-of-state youth baseball team but most of that equipment is still missing, according to a West Palm Beach Police news release.

Police said the team, the Red Seams Athletics, a 14-and-under travel team from Charlotte, North Carolina, was at the Hawthorne Suites Hotel at 301 Lamberton Drive. A man with the team told police Monday that the team's SUV had been burglarized overnight while in the hotel's parking lot.

According to the team's Facebook page, they were participating in the USA Baseball East Nationals in Jupiter which ended Sunday.

A security officer's log showed a vehicle had been in and out of the parking lot, leading police to start searching for hotel guest Jamal Williamson, 29, of Riviera Beach.

Rivera Beach Police tracked the accused burglar down but after he told police about the burglary, only three items were recovered, according to the release.

Williamson faces burglary and grand theft charges and was released from Palm Beach County Jail after posting $6,000 bail.
