Todd Wodraska, councilman, Jupiter; president, Palm Beach League of Cities

Last week: Good for Diana Nyad. Not sure why anyone would want to swim 110 miles in shark and jellyfish infested waters, but I admire her perseverance.

Looking ahead: Great Weekend ahead: UF v. UM and opening weekend of the NFL.

Sept. 1

Last week: Along the Treasure Coast, everyone is talking/concerned about the water quality, or lack thereof, from water being sent out to the ocean, but impacting the rivers, canals and estuaries.

Looking ahead: There are hundreds of important topics to discuss but I am so happy that football season starts this weekend!

Aug. 4

Last week: The most talked about story is school grades coming out and many schools suffering lower grades from a legislative change the scoring system.

Looking ahead: For parents they need to understand Common Core education programming and everyone needs to comprehend how the Affordable Care Act is going to impact them.

July 14

Last week: The George Zimmerman trial was what everyone was discussing on both a state and national level. I was pleasantly surprised to see that those who disagreed with the verdict protested in a non-violent way, for the most part.

Looking ahead: I'm used to rain in South Florida, but this summer has been ridiculous. I think the water levels in Lake Okeechobee are getting in a dangerous territory if we get a major storm this season.

July 7

Last week: I thought the Aaron Hernandez story was just going to go away but then it took a bunch of twists and turns and even has a gruesome connection to South Florida. Disturbing to say the least.

Looking forward: The George Zimmerman trial will be the topic of conversation no matter the verdict. No winners in that situation.

June 23

Looking ahead: Game 7 tonight is all anyone is talking about in my world.

Last week’s headline: Miami Heat!  South Florida is the center of the sports universe and we got to root for the winning team in one of the greatest games in NBA history.  Lebron dominates but still needs Ray Allen in the clutch and the long arms of Chris Bosh.
