On the List's Micaela Hood chatted with Dert, September's DJ of the month, about his crazy club tales and the future of dance music.

Q: What’s your favorite club moment?

A: Wow, there’s so many! I would say one night at Snatch we had more celebrities in one room than I have ever seen, Tom Cruise, Katie Holmes, Will and Jada Smith, Vin Diesel, Mathew Mcconaughey, Jessica Alba, Britney Spears, Sammy Sosa to name a few. Everyone was on the tables, seats, bars dancing all night, you could not fit another person in there if you tried. Tat was the night I decided to DJ as a profession, at that point I was still working with my band on a new record for a new label, and DJing was just a way to make money. It was a turning point In my life, not just another gig.

Q: What are your top three clubs in South Florida?

A: As a DJ, I would say Wall at the W, Liv, and Pearl at Nikki Beach. As a patron, I would say Wall, Bardot, and Mokai.

Q:  What’s the best thing about being a DJ?

A: The ability to work doing something I am so passionate about, making people dance, smile, doing it my way.  Every night is a new experience, a new challenge, being able to see other parts of the world and get paid to do it.

Q: Tell me the funniest thing a girl ever asked you in a club.

A: Once a girl asked me to play her “Bangin” track one night at the peak hour, and told me in exchange her and her friend would take me to the bathroom and “make me happy”, I told her if she had to offer that, then the track probably sucks and told her and her friend to exit the DJ booth. I found that pretty funny. Especially the expression on her face as they left the booth.

Q: Does it bother you when people ask to play certain songs

A: I try not to let it bother me, if someone asks for a song and it fits with the format of the night I’ll probably play it. But, only ask once. Plus, if I played the song earlier in the night I will not play it again.

Q: Where do you see dance music going?

A: It's so mainstream right now, all types of artist are making dance music or remixes to fit in with what is popular, I see this trend staying around for awhile. Being an open format DJ, I think it’s great because I love the high energy it brings.

Q: Did a girl ever flash you when you were playing?

A: Girls have flashed every body part to me, in the booth, from their tables, on the bars, it’s pretty amazing what girls will do to get my attention, or to get a song played, or just get into the booth. Happens all the time.  My job does not suck!

Q: What are top three songs of your lifetime?

A: Marvin Gaye’s “What’s Going On?”; Alice in Chains, “Would”; and Black Sabbath’s “Black Sabbath.”

Q: How do we get on your list?

A:  You get on “my list” by not just contacting me to be on “my list”.
