Jamie Arthur Goodman, a 55-year-old doc with two businesses in Islamorada -- the Keys Medical Center, a family practice medical clinic, and the Essence of the Phoenix, which is billed on its web site as an “Anti-Aging Regenerative Medicine, Laser Skin Care, and Body Wellness medical spa” -- is accused of scamming one of his patient out of $60,000, according to a news release from the Monroe County Sheriff's Office.
Detectives said Goodman began treating the 45-year-old woman in 2005. The patient told investigators that she had paid the doc $120 using her debit card, and then agreed to continue paying him that amount on a regular basis for treatment and prescriptions, giving Goodman her debit card information for payment purposes, the release stated.
Records show between May 2010 and September 2011 that Dr. Goodman over-billed the woman by $60,000, removing the money from her bank account by using her debit card information, according to the detective
The woman claimed she never agreed to the payments -- she only agreed to pay the doc $120 each time she saw him for treatment. She also said she never dealt with anyone else in his clinic -- just directly with Dr. Goodman, according to the Sheriff's Office.
Goodman was arrested Tuesday and charged with Grand Theft, fraud and 15 counts of Fraud for Use/Possession of the Identification of Another Person without their Consent
