Dillard's Kayla Wright and Grandview Prep's Ivan Canete have already picked up their share of post-season honors, but the duo got some more recognition on Tuesday.
Wright, who helped lead the Panthers to a fourth consecutive state championship was named the Class 5A Girls Basketball Player of the Year by the Florida Association of Basketball Coaches. Canete, meanwhile, led the Pride boys to their first state title.
Both athletes were also voted Sun Sentinel Players of the Year in their respective classifications and both were also honored as statewide Players of the Year in their respective classes by the Florida Dairy Farmers.
This past season, Wright averaged 16 points and 10 rebounds and Canete averaged 24 points, eight rebounds and six assists.
Two South Florida coaches were also recognized by the FABC. Coral Springs Christian's Steve Fitzgerald was named the state's Class 3A Boys Coach of the Year and St. Andrew's John O'Connell was named the Class 4A Boys Coach of the Year.
