The nonstop flight departed Fort Lauderdale at 9:45 a.m. and will arrive in San Jose 10:38 a.m.
To celebrate the new route, JetBlue is offering sale fares from $135 one-way through July 2, for travel between Sept. 6 and Dec. 13.
The Fort Lauderdale-San Jose route follows on the heels of JetBlue’s new service from the South Florida airport to Medellin, Colombia, which launched June 13.
"Adding San Jose capitalizes on our success in South Florida with continued growth to a key Central America destination," said Scott Laurence, JetBlue’s vice president of network planning, in a statement.
"The new route, we are inaugurating today from Fort Lauderdale allows to increase the availability of seats from the United States to the Juan Santamaria International Airport, strengthening options for travel to our country from the state of Florida, ranked third as a popular point of departure to Costa Rica,” said Costa Rica’s Minister of Tourism Allan Flores.
The return flight from San Jose departs 1:20 p.m. local time for arrival in Fort Lauderdale at 6:24 p.m. JetBlue is operating the route with its 150-seat Airbus A320 aircraft, and it’s in-flight experience includes assigned seating, a first-checked bag free and complimentary and unlimited name brand snacks and drinks.JetBlue plans to launch a handful of other new routes later this year from Fort Lauderdale. In November, new service is slated to begin to Worcester, Mass., (Nov. 7) and to Lima, Peru (Nov. 21), and in December to Port-au-Prince, Haiti (Dec.5).
