The city of Oakland Park - named after its tall oaks - was incorporated after its predecessor, the city of Floranada, went bankrupt after the 1926 hurricane.
The city's rules and regulations are the responsibility of the five-member City Commission. The commission also hires the city manager, who implements the commission's directives and is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the city. City Hall is at 3650 NE 12th Ave. The commission meets there at 7:30 p.m. on the first and third Wednesdays of every month.
