Friday is a holey holiday: We doughnut lie.
Celebrate 2013 National Donut Day with free sweet treats from Dunkin Donuts and Krispy Kreme and Winn-Dixie.
Dunkin' Donuts: Stop in at participating stores and get a freebie with any beverage purchase. Try the chain's new fruity doughnuts, which includes Lemonade and Key Lime flavors.
Krispy Kreme: Get your hands on a free, hot and delicious confection of your choice at South Florida locations in Fort Lauderdale, Tamarac and North Miami. No purchase is necessary.
Winn-Dixie: Munch on a free jumbo cake, powdered or cinnamon doughnut hole from the bakery. Limit one per customer, while supplies last.
Did you know: The Salvation Army takes credit for creating the first National Doughnut Day in 1938 as a way to honor “doughnut lassies” from World War I who used to fry dough up in helmets to comfort the troops.
Also, the top three sellers are glazed, chocolate glazed and Boston Kreme-filled, according to a Dunkin Donuts release. The chain sells a whopping 2.4 billion donuts each year.
That's a hole lotta love.
