It’s being held at the swankiest of swank locations: the Trump-owned Mar-a-Lago Club in Palm Beach.
George Sheldon, one of the Democrats seeking his party’s nomination to challenge Bondi, demanded that she return a previous $25,000 Trump contribution and cancel the Friday fundraiser.
“Pam Bondi seems to care more about raising money for her campaign than preserving the public trust in the Office of the Attorney General,” Sheldon said in a written statement Monday.
He said it was wrong that Bondi’s office didn’t join a lawsuit filed by the New York attorney general alleging a Trump corporation defrauded New Yorkers and Floridians of more than $40 million through expensive seminars at what was known as Donald Trump University.
“Maybe Trump did nothing wrong. But when the Attorney General takes the continuing big-dollar support from Donald Trump and his rich friends, people can’t have confidence in any decision she makes, Sheldon wrote.
Besides the big-name New Yorkers, there’s a long host committee for Friday’s event, with all sorts of ties.
•Anita Mitchell, chairwoman of the Palm Beach County Republican Party.
•Peter Feaman, Palm Beach County’s state Republican committeeman and the state’s national committeeman.
•Pepe Fanjul Jr. and Gaston Cantens of Florida Crystals.
•The Fort Lauderdale-based law firm Colodny, Fass, Talenfeld, Kalinsky, Abate & Webb (one of many lobbying shops on the list.)
