Barbara Bush, the family matriarch, probably echoed the national sentiment most succinctly in an interview when she said, “We’ve had enough Bushes.”
Her son, at the opening of his presidential library, said that history would be the judge of his presidency. Let us hope for his sake that he doesn’t live long enough to hear its final verdict.
When I do a word association with “George W. Bush,” these groupings come tumbling forth: 9/11. Afghanistan. Iraq. Katrina. Abu Ghraib. Guantanamo. WMD. Dick Cheney. You’re doing a heck of a job, Brownie. Valerie Plame. Scooter Libby. Mission accomplished. Walter Reed. The economic crash of 2008. My Pet Goat. Rummy. The Patriot Act. Karzai. Chalabi. Etc., etc., etc.
I need to stop now and do some Zen work.
