This spring, it’s all about color. Dramatic pastel eyes, glossy pink lips and bold, bright eyeliner is creating a fresh effect this season. Two cosmetics lines I’m currently obsessing over are Aveda and Benefit. Here are my favorite new products from each line and which ones you’ve got to snag for your makeup bag this minute.
This line sticks with botanically-based products with delightfully scented aromatic florals and a focus on natural beauty and recycled packaging. The brand’s current Art of Nature cosmetics collection is an ethereal mix of gorgeous green shadows, bright coral blushes and sexy sheer to bold lip shades.
The eye shadow: I’m impressed with how nicely Aveda’s eye shadows glide on and stay on. Aveda’s Petal Essence Single Eye Color in Lemongrass is the must-have light green eye shadow for the season. ($14 each at Aveda.com)
The blush:Petal Essence Face Accents in Hibiscus is the ultimate blush brick to carry you into summer. It looks like a yummy block of ice cream and can be worn to highlight your cheekbones and brighten up your entire face with one swoop across each cheek. ($24 at Aveda.com)
The eyeliner: The Petal Essence Eye Definer is every girl’s remedy for applying a smooth line across her eyes. Eyeliner can get tricky and even painful at times but thanks to Aveda’s eyeliners made from flower waxes, there’s no tearing up or getting stuck. Wild Indigo is a beautiful navy blue liner and you can rock the ivy eye trend with the Jane Vine liner. ($16 each at Aveda.com).
The lipstick: Aveda Nourish-Mint Smoothing Lip Color formulas plump and hydrate dry lips with its rich plant and fruit wax formula. As a bonus, the lipstick has a refreshing peppermint flavor so you instantly feel a breath-freshening pick me up upon application. Two limited-edition shades released for the Art of Nature Collection include Cana (the perfect coral red) and Melochia Bloom (an innocent nude-hued shade ideal for day time wear). ($16 each at Aveda.com).
The retro packaging for Benefit was already cute, but the spring collection has made the brand simply irresistible for any beauty product junkie. Each item comes in Art Deco-inspired packaging that are impossible to put down. Get ready to step into some old Hollywood glamour this spring with an array of wearable colors and innovative products from Benefit Cosmetics.
The eye shadow: Longwear Powder Shadow. First off, each eye shadow comes in a small container that resembles a tiny hat box. The shadow inside comes in a gorgeous plastic container that looks like something that could’ve been on Marilyn Monroe’s vanity. While the silky shadows come in matte, satin and sheen blends, none of the shadows fade even after a full day at the office and then cocktails with the girls. The color selections range from rich mochas to pearly white but my must-have spring shade is the perfectly peachy shadow cleverly called “It’s complicated.” ($20 each at Benefitcosmetics.com).
The skin fix: It’s South Florida. It’s humid and big pores seem unavoidable. Well, not unless you leave it up to Porefessional. This is Benefit Cosmetics’ miracle in a tube. This lightweight cream goes over moisturizer to prime makeup to stay in its place while reducing the appearance of fine lines and pores. It makes skin so smooth, it’s honestly addicting. ($30 at Benefitcosmetics.com).
The mascara: Lashes are hot again this season and Benefit’s They’re Real! Mascara lifts and separates lashes without compromising lash volume. The long wearing formula impressively doesn’t dry out and flake into your eyes or smudge, which is my number one issue I’ve had with other mascaras in the past. The well-designed wand on the product helps you reach every lash on your lid with precision. There are somedays where you don’t feel like wearing a full face of makeup and this mascara is a magic wand that can be worn on its own. ($23 at at Benefitcosmetics.com).
The lip-gloss: My number one issue with lip-gloss is that it gets sticky, dries out my lips and my husband doesn’t want to kiss me because it gets all over him. I am thrilled to report Benefit Cosmetics has created a lip-gloss unlike any other. The Ultra Plush Lip-Gloss goes on smooth and stays that way. There’s no chapping or strange residue left behind. While the gloss comes in five shades as well as clear my favorites are the corally Poutrageous! and sheer plum shade Kiss You. ($16 at Benefitcosmetics.com).
