Mike Ryan, Mayor, Sunrise (June 20, 2013)

Michael J. Ryan was born on July 30, 1964, in Queens, New York. He was raised
in upstate New York before moving to Broward County in 1977. Mike attended Broward
County public schools. After graduation from high school, Mike attended The George
Washington University
, where he majored in finance and received a degree in Business
Administration in 1986. Mike later attended Case Western Reserve University School of
Law on a full tuition scholarship and graduated Summa Cum Laude in 1992.
Mike is a partner with the law firm of Krupnick Campbell Malone et al., where he
has practiced since 1997. In 1999, Mike, together with his co-counsel, was honored as
one of ten nominees nationally for Trial Lawyers of the Year by the Trial Lawyers for
Public Justice.
In August 2010, Mike was elected Mayor of Sunrise, and returned to office
without opposition in 2012.
Mike has long been an active resident of the City of Sunrise. He has served as a
PTA President for two years and as an Executive Board Officer for an additional two
years with the Sawgrass Elementary PTA; a volunteer Coach for youth soccer, baseball
and flag football; and two terms as Chair of the Education Advisory Board for the City of
Sunrise. Mike has served as Co-Chair of the Broward County Consolidated
Communications Committee and as Chair of the Public Safety Committee of the
Broward League of Cities. Mike is also an appointed member of the Broward County
Planning Council.
Mike has also been involved in diverse charity events, including running
marathons for charity, helping gather goods and supplies to assist Haiti after the
January 2010 earthquake, traveling overseas to volunteer at a U.S.O. Wounded Warrior
Center, participating in Relay for Life, and traveling on a nine day, 900-mile bike ride to
benefit, among others, wounded soldiers and their families.
