The Waffleosophy truck started rolling in July, serving traditional Hong Kong waffles with savory toppings. While the standard waffle resembles a custard, the truck's version is made with a rich corn batter. Menu highlights include the curry chicken waffle and a jerk beef waffle. Dessert waffles are also available, with macerated strawberries and chocolate ganache.
All the small trailer's dishes cost $6 or less, and they're made by Hollywood chef Wendell Ordonez, formerly of the Mandarin Oriental hotel in Brickell Key. He quit his job to enter the mobile food business.
"I was looking for something new," Ordonez says. "I wanted something unlike any other truck in South Florida."
Ordonez worked at the hotel for three years, and previously was a chef in New York. His wife, Cynthia Betancourt, is still in the hotel business, but she handles the truck's register. Waffleosophy is the only local truck to serve Hong Kong waffle entrees.Twitter and Instagram.
