Cancer sucks. All types of it.
It's threatened to shrink my large, boisterous family multiple times, so I'm going to get serious for a bit here.
I thought that would be the end of my involvement in Breast Cancer Awareness Month, but I'm feeling the pull of the initiative this year. Maybe it has to do with my mother's sudden eagerness to comply with recommended routine screenings, or my aunt's challenging recovery and her positive attitude.
So -- because I don't want to get too serious, lest we all feel the need to drink for sorrow and not for fun -- here are some good joints where you can get that dose of liquid love that gets you through the week, and do it for the good of the boobies.
Salsa Fiesta in Pembroke Pines will host a brunch fundraiser for the Memorial Breast Cancer Center this Sunday, Oct. 14, at 10 a.m. The $10 entry includes a buffet and one complimentary mimosa.SalsaFiestaGrill.com
Rocco's Tacos locations will donate a portion of their Taco Tuesday sales to Susan G. Komen, as well. Every Tuesday this month, guests who purchase the $14.99 all-you-can-eat special will contribute to owner Rocco Mangel's goal of $25,000 in donations. Mangel will visit the locations to give away his signature Milagro Tequila to guests who donate $100 or more, and he will pour free tequila shots at the bar. Find out where he will be at Facebook.com/RoccosTacos.
Stephane's American and French Cuisine will donate 20 percent of sales of the pink passion sparkling cocktail and the shrimp cocktail appetizer to the American Cancer Society in South Palm Beach. Valid through October. StephanesRestaurant.com
The Office in Delray Beach will donate some proceeds from the sale of its pink slip martini to the Florida Breast Cancer Foundation throughout October. TheOfficeDelrayFL.com or 561-276-3600.
