1. With no Supreme Court word on gay marriage, couples set for delays

L.A. NOW
After the U.S. Supreme Court did not make a decision Monday on whether to take up the issue of same-sex marriage in California, local wedding planners say one thing is certain: There will be more delays....

3. The search for the wedding venue begins

And so the wedding planning process begins.
And so the wedding planning process begins. I told myself I'd wait until after the holidays to really start thinking about it. "I want to savor my engagement," I replied to anyone who asked about a date and location. And for a while, that worked. I...

9. California weekend escape: An evergreen calm in Fallbrook

The slow pace and small-town pleasures of Fallbrook, Calif. — best known for its avocados and festival celebrating the green fruit — can't match the glitz of, well, glitzier destinations. That lack of flash is what's most appealing about this rural outpost in north San Diego County. The ancient oaks of Live Oak Park are waiting to provide shade for a picnic, nurseries that dot the hills are filled with colorful plants to take home, and there are some bright new restaurants known only to locals. C'mon down, sit a spell.

11. We thought we were on top of our planning, but suddenly, we were way behind

I am fortunate to have recently come back from a much-needed family vacation. I was able to sleep in, and (gasp!) actually finish a book that was unrelated to wedding planning. The relaxation period was short lived due to the reality check I received upon my return.

13. A holiday with the "new" family takes priority

Happy post-Thanksgiving everyone! I hope you all have plenty to be thankful for and that you arrived at your turkey day destinations safely and sans hangover. A family friend of mine once gave me advice on juggling holiday time with my family and my future in-laws. She said, "Rachel, when you get married, you'll have three families: you, your husband and any children you may have; your family; and your husband's family. The family you create should always come first. The other two will understand."

The holidays are an exciting but sometimes stressful time, especially as a bride-to-be. Not only are you dealing with the stresses of holiday shopping, but you also have to keep an extra eye on your budget, watch what you eat and juggle your family and your fiancé's family -- all while trying to be joyful and bright!

21. Future bride says "I don't" to Pastor-Dad

Dear Amy: I am getting married next summer to a wonderful man. During the planning it has come to my attention that my fiance would very much like his father, a minister, to officiate our wedding. I am opposed to this because I would like his father to be "Dad" on this special day and not the pastor. I have a difficult time differentiating between "Dad" and "Pastor-Dad."
