  • Older PA plates fading away, but still on the road

    Q: I was traveling Route 22 to work recently and saw a vanity license plate in the old format of yellow lettering on blue background with the grating 'You've got a friend in Pennsylvania' tag line. I thought these plates were not allowed after the switch to the new white/yellow/blue style. If I recall correctly, people with vanity plates were given the chance to transfer them to the new format. I thought the only plates still allowed in the older style are those that were issued celebrating the 200th anniversary of the U.S. Constitution. I could be mistaken, but if they're not allowed, why aren't the police citing people?
