RAPID CITY, S.D. – Some records were broken at the annual Rapid City Qualifier Track and Field Meet Tuesday.
Rapid City Central’s Lauren Schad won the girls high jump after a leap of 5-feet, 7-and-a-quarter inches. The broke the 5-foot-7 mark from earlier this year.
The Scooper’s Brooke Ireland also continued her dominating performance. Her 200-meter finish of 25.67 seconds is the fastest in the state so far this year. Ireland had hoped to set a good time at the Howard Wood Relays last week, but the 200 got rained out.
Another Scooper, Jacob Simmons, also set the state’s fastest time so far this year in the 800-meters, winning that event with a blistering time of 1:56.60. Simmons has already earned a spot at the state meet.
Custer’s Brennan Witt won the 1,600-meter run Tuesday, earning the junior a trip to the state track and field meet.
In the hurdles, Rapid City Steven’s Ashley Thompson won the 100 and 300-meter hurdles. Her time in the 300-meters Tuesday was the best in the state so far this season.
