Alfonso Mack is planning to open his third Linden Grill location at 110 N. Main St. This space formerly housed Garcia's Mexican Family Restaurant, which closed in the last several weeks.
The restaurants share a menu that contains a variety of American and soul food dishes, including burgers, wings, chicken and seafood. Take a peek for yourself at www.lindengrill.com.
Mack became interested in downtown last summer, after the city created the riverfront district that gives business owners a break on liquor license prices, says Tamara Nicholl-Smith, the city's director of downtown business recruitment.
If the riverfront license is approved for Linden Grill, it will be Mack's only location that serves alcohol.
"He had actually been interested in the old Buffalo Wild Wings space," Nicholl-Smith says, "But he decided that the former Garcia's space was a better size for him. He plans to make use of the outside patio, perhaps even grilling on the patio in the summertime."
Newspapers now cover the windows as renovations get under way.
Just last week, local restaurateurs Jeremy Young and Kurt Janowsky detailed their plans for Uchi Japanese Fusion & Bar and a whiskey bar called The Exchange.
Both are expected to open downtown this summer.
The Chicory Cafe recently expanded its hours, now staying open until 10 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, instead of closing at 5 p.m. And Cambodian Thai is putting the final touches on its new downtown location, Nicholl-Smith adds.
"Downtown is moving in a very positive direction," Nicholl-Smith says.
