Newsmaker Q&A: Bruce Kleppinger, Black Diamond Society of Model Engineers
Even though the holiday season is over, the Black Diamond Society of Model Engineers is still celebrating with its annual Open House events. The nonprofit organization of model train devotees opens up its displays at its Bethlehem headquarters to the public a few times around the holidays, showing off two floors of extensive and elaborate model train displays. It's a miniature world of railroads, including trolley cars operating with power from overhead wires, turn-of-the-century logging railroads, freight yards, roundhouse operations, passenger stations, farms, villages, coal mines and tourist railroads. The trains traverse bridges, disappear into tunnels and glide around sweeping curves en route to their destinations. There are even a few features visitors can do themselves. You'll often see Bruce Kleppinger of East Allen Township overseeing the exhibit. He'll be adjusting a derailed train or make fixes as they come, so visitors can continue to enjoy the exhibit. Kleppinger, one of the directors of the Black Diamond Society's directors, is the subject of this week's Newsmaker Q&A.
