Divvy shuts down bike-sharing service temporarily

Need a Divvy bike this afternoon to get around the snowy streets?

You’ll have to wait a while. Divvy closed at noon for Chicagoans wishing to rent a bike, but bikes can still be returned to sharing stations, according to an announcement on the service’s Tumblr site, http://divvybikes.tumblr.com/. A reopening time was not announced.

Divvy said the closure was made to “protect the safety of our members and staff.”

The announcement also noted the service logged nearly 45,000 trips in December.
