Austin saw three homicides in two days this week, a RedEye analysis of preliminary police data found.
On Tuesday, two men, ages 22 and 25, were shot to death in the 1200 block of North Mason Avenue, police said. Two days earlier, a 35-year-old man was fatally shot in the 1300 block of North Lorel Avenue, according to officials.
Austin, Chicago's largest community area, has logged 14 homicides so far this year, RedEye data shows. The West Side community recorded 30 homicides last year, RedEye data shows.
Meanwhile, Belmont Cragin saw a double homicide Sunday. Two men, ages 32 and 46, were shot to death in the 2300 block of North Laramie Avenue, police said.
Citywide, gunshot homicides were recorded in the last week in Armour Square, Ashburn, New City, South Chicago, South Deering, Uptown and West Englewood, RedEye data found.
Meanwhile, a 30-year-old man was stabbed to death Monday in the 200 block of West 31st Street in Armour Square, police said. Five days earlier, a 24-year-old man was fatally stabbed in the 4100 block of South King Drive in Grand Boulevard, police said.
Thirty-four homicides have been recorded so far this month. Forty-four homicides were logged in June 2011, RedEye determined.
