Austin and East Garfield Park each recorded two homicides in the last week, a RedEye analysis of preliminary police data found.
In Austin, a 33-year-old man was fatally shot Monday in the 200 block of North Laramie Avenue, police said. That same day, a 25-year-old man was shot to death in the 5400 block of West Haddon Avenue, according to officials.
Austin has logged 14 homicides so far this year. The West Side community area recorded 31 homicides last year, down from 37 killings in 2012, RedEye determined.
In East Garfield Park, a 47-year-old man died from sharp-force injuries sustained Monday in the 2800 block of West Arthington Street, police said. One day earlier, a 46-year-old man was shot to death in the 3300 block of West Maypole Avenue, according to officials.
East Garfield Park has logged four homicides so far this year. The West Side community area recorded nine homicides last year, up from six killings in 2012, RedEye found.
Meanwhile, a 26-year-old man was stabbed to death May 22 in the 3900 block of South Michigan Avenue in Grand Boulevard, police said.
Thirty-six homicides have been logged so far this month. Forty-six homicides were recorded in May 2013, RedEye found.
