Four men were shot and killed in West Garfield Park in about 24 hours this week, a RedEye analysis of preliminary police data found.
Two men were shot to death about 8:55 p.m. Monday in the 4100 block of West Adams Street, officials said. Nearly four hours earlier, a 21-year-old man was fatally shot in the 4200 block of West Van Buren Street, police said.
West Garfield Park has logged eight homicides so far this year. The West Side community area recorded 14 homicides last year, RedEye data found.
Also on the West Side, Austin logged three homicides in three days last week, RedEye data found.
Two men, ages 39 and 55, were shot to death Saturday in the 4900 block of West Washington Boulevard, police said. Three days earlier, a 7-year-old girl was fatally shot in the 1700 block of North Luna Avenue, officials said.
Austin has recorded 16 homicides so far this year. The West Side community logged 30 homicides last year, RedEye data shows.
Meanwhile, South Lawndale saw a double homicide Saturday. Two men, ages 33 and 42, were shot to death in the 2500 block of South Kildare Avenue, police said.
Citywide, gunshot homicides were recorded in the last week in Chicago Lawn, East Garfield Park, Greater Grand Crossing, Kenwood and South Chicago, RedEye determined.
June ended Saturday with 46 homicides, up from 45 homicides recorded in June 2011, according to RedEye data.
Eight homicides have been logged so far in July. Fifty-five homicides were recorded in July 2011, according to RedEye data.
