Austin, Englewood and the Near West Side each saw two homicides in the last week, a RedEye analysis of preliminary police data found.
In Austin, a 27-year-old man was shot to death Saturday in the 500 block of South Cicero Avenue, police said. Three days earlier, a 46-year-old man was fatally shot in the 5500 block of West Washington Boulevard, officials said.
Austin has recorded 29 homicides so far this year, RedEye data shows. The West Side community area logged 23 homicides last year, RedEye determined.
In Englewood, two boys, ages 16 and 17, were fatally shot Tuesday in the 6600 block of South Halsted Street, police said.
Englewood has logged 24 homicides so far this year, according to data. The South Side community area recorded 14 homicides last year, RedEye found.
On the Near West Side, two men, ages 30 and 34, were shot to death Sunday in the 300 block of North Sangamon Street, police said.
The Near West Side has seen nine homicides so far this year, according to data. The community area logged six homicides last year, RedEye found.
Citywide, gunshot homicides were recorded in Brighton Park, Grand Boulevard and West Englewood, according to RedEye data.
Twenty-seven homicides have been logged so far in December. Police recorded 25 homicides in December last year, RedEye found.
