  • There's an app for that, but Turnpike retains radio alerts, call boxes

Q: Why doesn't the Turnpike broadcast traffic reports on their radio frequency? On July 7, southbound traffic was backed up from the Lehigh Tunnel to beyond the Mahoning Valley exit. Luckily, I was traveling north. Wondering whether the situation had changed for my return trip to Allentown five or six hours later, I tuned in to 1630 AM, and hearing no report of backups or traffic jams, figured all was good. Immediately after passing the Pocono exit, what do I hit but traffic backed up from the tunnel, which is a good 15 miles. Question is, why wasn't this broadcast on the radio channel? Are they afraid people will get off and they will lose revenue? This was not holiday traffic; it must have been an accident in the tunnel, because I didn't see any problems on the south end of tunnel while I was heading north.
