House Honors The Late Terry Backer, A Colorful Legislator

State Rep. Terry Backer was one of the most outspoken and colorful characters in a Capitol building filled with characters.

Backer, who died in December at the age of 61 after battling brain cancer for more than five years, was honored Tuesday by the state House of Representatives with a special video tribute - along with multiple speeches by his former colleagues.

A longtime Democrat whose deep love of Long Island Sound defined much of his life, Backer was a force at the Capitol on issues regarding the environment.
