Dog grooming school sued by Illinois

The state of Illinois is suing an Arlington Heights dog grooming school, claiming that its students were defrauded out of thousands of dollars because the business lacked the necessary state permit to provide valid industry certification.

Attorney General Lisa Madigan filed the lawsuit in Cook County Circuit Court on Tuesday against Academy of Dog Grooming Arts, Sharron Panther, its president and owner; and Mark Panther, its secretary. Chicago-area students were cheated out of more than $85,000, she said in a news release.

The lawsuit seeks, among other things, refunds for the harmed consumers as well as civil penalties exceeding $50,000.
