HARTFORD — Connecticut's annual sales tax holiday week is under way. Beginning Sunday and continuing through Saturday, Aug. 22, most items of clothing and footwear priced under $100 are exempt from the state's sales and use taxes. The tax holiday, timed for the back-to-school shopping season, is in its 15th year. Department of Revenue Services Commissioner Kevin Sullivan says since retailers often plan sales and discounts for the week, he hopes shoppers will take advantage and "give a boost to our state's economy." The state expects to lose about $6 million in tax revenue, about $1 million less than last year.
