AVON — A drive by students at Avon Middle School has collected 1,091 sweatshirts to be distributed to the needy.
The drive, which exceeded its goal, concluded in late February and the sweatshirts have been distributed to social service agencies.
One of the recipients was Gifts of Love, the town-based organization that provides flood and clothing to the needy and other programs.
"Avon gets a bad reputation for spoiled kids, but the flip side of that is kids like this," Gifts of Love Director Diana Goode said Wednesday.
