Hotly Contested Battle For Simsbury's 16th House District

SIMSBURY — Democratic State Rep. John Hampton is seeking to hold onto his seat in the 16th House District in a hotly contested race against Republican challenger Cheryl Cook. Hampton is a former member of the board of selectmen seeking a second term in the 16th district, which covers all of Simsbury. Cook is serving her first term on the board of selectmen. Robert Kalechman is also on the ballot as a petitioning candidate. Republicans have been criticizing attempts in the legislature to reduce the scope of drug-free zones around day-care centers, public housing and schools, both this year and last.
