U.S. Rep. Jim Himes, D-4, has been elected to head up a group of moderate, pro-growth congressional Democrats called the New Democrat Coalition.
“I’m thrilled to have the chance to lead the most forward-looking group of members in the Congress,” Himes said, “all of whom are dedicated to defending and supporting those who get left behind.”
The 52-member group of U.S. House Democrats was founded in 1997 and its website statement said the group is “a solutions-oriented, pragmatic coalition.”
Himes is replacing U.S. Rep. Ron Kind of Wisconsin as chair of the coalition. Kind has served as coalition chair for the past four years.
