Navy Awards $5 Billion Sub Contract to Electric Boat

Electric Boat, a subsidiary of General Dynamics, was awarded a $5.1 billion contract by the U.S. Navy to complete the design of the Columbia-class submarine, the Navy announced on Thursday.

Construction of the first submarine in the class, the USS Columbia, is scheduled to begin in the fall of 2020. The Navy plans to build 12 new ballistic missile submarines.
