Courtney Backs Bill To Aid Dairy Farmers In Connecticut, Northeast

A federal program designed to protect dairy farmers from dramatic drops in milk prices or increases in feed costs is unfair to farmers in Connecticut and the rest of the northeastern U.S. , according to U.S. Rep. Joe Courtney, D-2.

Courtney is joining with congressional colleagues from Vermont and New York to sponsor new legislation they say will “bring fairness to the federal system used to determine the price dairy farmers are paid for their milk.”

Under the current federal system, dairy farmers can get federal financial support if the difference between milk prices and what farmers pay for cattle feed is too small. Without that support, many farmers might go...
